The Zenonia series requires that the characters eat food regularly, or they otherwise face a major decrease to their maximum Steam Power gauge. Hunger is typically indicated by the SP gauge flashing, if too much time passes without a meal or staying at an inn the SP gauge max will temporarily decrease.
The hunger system was removed from Zenonia 3 and onwards.
